BOOST/FREESTYLE MUSIC PARK ANNOUNCE INAUGURAL GRAND STRAND FREEDOM FESTIVAL

(Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - Monday, August 3, 2009)With a focus on expanding tourism along the Grand Strand into the shoulder seasons and at the same time offering area residents an opportunity to enjoy a unique, patriotic family weekend, two area groups have joined forces with a growing number of other businesses to introduce the Inaugural Grand Strand Freedom Fest.

Business Owners Organized to Support Tourism (BOOST) and Freestyle Music Park announced today a weekend long event, called Grand Strand Freedom Fest, scheduled for September 11th – 13th, 2009. The event will be held in honor and memory of the victims, families and first responders of September 11th, 2001 – and of the brave women and men of America’s Armed Forces who have been protecting us ever since. A portion of the proceeds raised by this not-for-profit event will be directed to Operation First Response, an organization that has been supporting wounded soldiers and their families since 2001.

Robert Kelley, president and co-founder of BOOST and John Stine, Director of Sales & Marketing for Freestyle Music Park joined together to announce the new Festival and a preliminary schedule of activities, events and concerts that Kelley called “maybe the most significant new event in the Myrtle Beach area in many years” – and one that is sure to grow and expand as America honors and remembers September 11th, 2001.

Highlights of the weekend will include a Concert for America by The Long Bay Symphony (Friday evening/location pending) and a daylong festival featuring a pre-tour concert by country music superstar LeAnn Rimes on Saturday night at Freestyle Music Park. Additional entertainment include afternoon concerts by Charlie Floyd and Southern Express, Jeffrey Allen Edwards and Southern Blues and 70s superstar Billy Joe Royal.

With a group of America’s wounded heroes leading the way, visitors to Freestyle Music Park will also enjoy a Parade featuring local high school marching bands and the roar of Rolling Thunder and other veteran, police, fire & rescue oriented motorcycles through the Park beginning at 1pm. Exhibits from the likes of the Pearl Harbor Foundation, the September 11th Memorial Foundation and others will dot the beautiful walkways through the Park.

Operation First Response founder Peggy Baker announced today that wounded warrior and Silver Star recipient Sean Bennett will be among the soldiers here for the weekend, along with Military American Idol Winner Vicki Golding. Bennett has launched his singing career on tour with Billy Ray Cyrus; Golding will sing the national anthem for the Festival on Friday evening.
